The Feng Shui of Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics which has become quite popular in recent years and which is purported to improve health and prosperity. For fun, and in celebration of the Chinese New Year, we’ve applied feng shui principles to our research. If you want help cleaning your attic or rearranging your furniture… sorry, you’re in the wrong place. But, if you want clean, clear consumer insight data that can help you and your ideas succeed, we’re your go-to market research company.
Feng Shui Step 1: Know your goals.
As in Feng shui, there are many possible places to start when conducting market research. Knowing what you hope to gain from the research is critical and helps prevent wasted time and energy. Clarifying goals helps to prioritize the most pertinent and important steps whether you’re conducting feng shui or testing a new product or strategy.
Feng Shui Step 2: Remove clutter.
Clutter, in terms of consumer data collection, refers to duplicate survey responses or answers not making sense. In the event that a consumer does try to answer one of our surveys more than once, we throw out BOTH responses. We also eliminate any consumers who do not complete a survey within an appropriate time frame or who do not complete the full survey.
Feng Shui Step 3: Pay attention to the details surrounding you.
We pay close attention to the details of the data we collect. Surveys are developed jointly with clients and internal cross checks are included. Our clients always approve surveys before we begin the data collection process.
Feng Shui Step 4: Make traffic flow so that you can see people entering your room.
We know who is answering our surveys! Our surveys work to discourage the “professional survey takers” that plague some of our competitors and skew survey results. And, we work hard to make sure that you are getting data from the right consumers! We have a variety of internal panelists in all 50 states and over 50 countries. And, we employ tried and true methods for recruiting new consumers to meet highly specific demographic needs.
Feng Shui Step 5: Create Order.
After data are collected, we clean them up for our clients. Putting research results in order means different things to different clients. This is where our custom reporting options come in. Options range anywhere from raw data delivery, to PowerPoint presentations, to creating custom, secure Web portals where results are posted for easy access by our clients, their staff, and their customers. Some clients request to receive a full analysis of the findings, while others prefer to have their own internal team do the analytical work.
Feng Shui Step 6: Know where your power is.
Studying feng shui can help you to learn what parts of your home or office are most impactful to the key life areas you want to address and will help you to set priorities. Market research, on the other hand, will identify the strengths and weaknesses of your product or concept and help you set production, branding, and marketing goals.
Feng Shui Step 7: Create a clear path.
What is getting in the way of your product or concept being successful? Are you unintentionally blocking your own success because you are not sure of the details? Are you sure you are focusing on the right things? What opportunities are getting stuck or slipping away?
We have a long track record of successfully assisting many industry-leading clients in making critical decisions about concept and product introduction. With the current economy, reliable market research has never been more important!
